WORKS UNDERWAY AT HOWARD STREET AS LABOR DELIVERS LOCAL ROAD PRIORITIES

01 April 2025

The Federal Labor Government is partnering with the City of Greater Bendigo (COGB) to deliver targeted road improvements across Greater Bendigo, with works to repair Howard Street underway in Jackass Flat.

The COGB project received $1,919,701 in Roads to Recovery (RTR) funding to repair 1.6 kilometres of Howard Street, between Averys Road and Eaglehawk-Neilborough Road.

The road is a key transport route linking Epsom and Eaglehawk and has seen deterioration over the years due to frequent usage by trucks and heavy vehicles.

Works have started on the reconstruction of the road, which will bring improved access for heavy vehicles along the busy route.

It follows $1,165,916 in RTR funding delivered in 2023-24 to repair a neighbouring section of Howard Street between Evergreen Boulevard and Bowles Road, bringing the total funding delivered for Howard Street to $3,085,617.

The Albanese Government is progressively doubling RTR from $500 million to $1 billion per year. This brings the five-year RTR allocation for the COGB to $19,764,128.

Labor has a proven track record of partnering with state and local governments to deliver key road projects for the Bendigo region.
