NEW MARONG FAST-CHARGING EV STATIONS NOW OPERATIONAL

01 November 2024

Electric vehicle drivers in the Bendigo region will be better supported with more access to charging infrastructure, after the Australian Government’s Driving the Nation program saw new fast-charging stations switched on in Marong.

New fast-charging EV stations are now operational along the national highways between Melbourne and Adelaide as part of a partnership with the NRMA.

Other sites receiving new charging stations include Wycheproof, Ouyen, Mildura and Ararat in Victoria. Other recently opened sites include Port Pirie in South Australia and Mataranka in the Northern Territory.

The National EV Fast-Charging Network is being delivered by the NRMA with a $39.3 million grant from the government to deploy fast-charging stations along Australian highways.

It’s part of the Albanese Government’s broader program to accelerate EV charger rollout around Australia, with more than 900 fast chargers now switched on for motorists.

The new EV charging sites will better assist to keep battery charge up and range anxiety down among motorists.

The NRMA advises another five sites across Australia are nearing practical completion and are expected to open over the upcoming Christmas and New Year period.

More EV fast-charging stations will continue to be added to this program next year, with the NRMA initiative delivering 117 new fast-chargers in total.

The government’s Driving the Nation fund aims to install a fast charger every 150 km on average on national highways, giving consumers the confidence to make the switch to an EV.

QUOTES ATTRIBUTABLE TO FEDERAL MEMBER FOR BENDIGO, LISA CHESTERS MP:

“The successful transition to more fuel-efficient cars relies on having the infrastructure in place to support EV charging demand.

“This is particularly important in regional hubs like Bendigo, where a lack of infrastructure can have an impact on the purchasing decisions of people looking for a new car.

“These new fast-chargers are a game-changer for locals looking to reduce emissions while staying connected to other cities across the country.”
