KANGAROO FLAT SKATE PARK WILL BE DELIVERED UNDER LABOR

03 April 2025

A re-elected Albanese Labor Government will deliver funding for the development of the Kangaroo Flat Skate Park.

This election commitment would put $500,000 towards the project, which the City of Greater Bendigo has identified as a community priority.

The skate park will feature multiple areas to accommodate users of all skill levels, such as a beginner area suited to younger users and a street-style park for more experienced skaters.

It will also double as a community social space, with amenities such as seating, shelters, drink fountains and BBQ facilities included in the final concept.

Located on the Bendigo Creek Trail between the Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre and Gateway Park, the skate park further develops this community space and provides a vital space for activity.

The Kangaroo Flat development will cost $1.3 million in total, with the City of Greater Bendigo contributing $800,000 toward the project.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.

QUOTES ATTRIBUTABLE TO FEDERAL MEMBER FOR BENDIGO, LISA CHESTERS MP:

“This is such a great project that is good for people’s physical and mental health. It provides people of all ages a safe space to get active in an area of Greater Bendigo that is crying out for more activities for young people.

“Skating is a fun, physical activity that provides health, social and other benefits for many people outside of organised sport.

“I’m proud that our government has committed to fund the Kangaroo Flat Skate Park, which will bring benefits that extend to the wider Bendigo community.

“I’ve delivered over $415 million in funding to the Bendigo electorate since the election of the Labor Government in 2022, and a re-elected Labor government will continue to deliver for people in our community.”

QUOTES ATTRIBUTABLE TO CITY OF GREATER BENDIGO CEO, ANDREW COONEY:

“This project was first identified in 2017 and the design of the park has been developed with the support of the community. The design features a beginner area and an intermediate zone, catering for a range of age groups and skill levels.

“There are also many benefits that come from co-locating recreation facilities, so establishing a skate park opposite Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre and nearby to Gateway Park would complement this popular area in Kangaroo Flat.”
