FUNDING FLOWS TO FIX KYNETON BLACK SPOT LOCATIONS

22 March 2025

Kyneton residents will benefit from safer roads thanks to investments made via the Federal Labor Government’s Black Spots Program.

The Black Spots Program targets dangerous road locations at increased risk of crash or collision, funding safety measures such as traffic signals and roundabouts to improve road safety and help prevent serious injuries and deaths on our roads.

Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters today visited the Batters Lane and Piper Creek Road intersection, which is receiving $215,232 from the Federal Government to upgrade lighting and install new signage and a splitter island at the intersection.

It is one of two Kyneton intersections receiving funding in this round of the Black Spots Program, with the total investment across these projects reaching $431,376.

Anyone is invited to nominate Black Spot locations, which are then considered annually by Black Spot Consultative Panels in each state and territory. The panel recommends projects for approval to the relevant Federal Minister.

The Federal Labor Government is progressively increasing the total investment to the Black Spots Program from $110 million to $150 million per year, meaning more money to improve the most dangerous sections of our roads.

This is in addition to the Federal Labor Government’s commitment to double funding to the Roads to Recovery program, which will see $1 billion distributed annually to local councils for road improvements by 2027-28.
