Earlier this month, Chesters toured the recently renovated headspace Bendigo facility which was made possible through Federal Government grants.
The funding was delivered across several rounds of the headspace Demand Management and Capital Enhancement Grants.
This has allowed headspace Bendigo to increase staffing levels, expand their footprint and support over 300 additional young people in Central Victoria.
headspace Bendigo has been supporting young people in the region for 12 years and is part of a network of 160 services nationally, 40 in Victoria and many in regional areas where young people have found it difficult to access support close to home.
In response to growing need and increased demand the Federal Labor Government is increasing the number of headspace services to 173 by 2025–26.
For young people who prefer online or phone support, eheadspace provides free, telephone and web-based services to young people aged 12 to 25 years with, or at risk of, developing mental illness.
QUOTES ATTRIBUTABLE TO THE FEDERAL MEMBER FOR BENDIGO, LISA CHESTERS MP:
“Our local headspace Bendigo team do an amazing job supporting young people in our community.
“headspace provides such a crucial service for young regional Australians who would otherwise be left without access to mental health support services close to home.
“I’m so thrilled to see this funding flow through to headspace Bendigo and I will continue to advocate for mental health services in our region.”
