02 October 2023

From today, early voting centres for the 2023 VOICE Referendum are open.

Just like with a Federal Election, people can early vote ahead of Referendum Day on Saturday 14 October. It is also compulsory to vote in a Referendum.

Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters attended the Dymocks Bendigo Bank Central early voting booth at Bath Lane in Bendigo today to mark the start of Early voting.

Another site in Eaglehawk also opens today and from next week, additional early voting sites will open in Bendigo and Castlemaine.

More information about polling centres, including accessibility information, and opening hours can be found here: https://www.aec.gov.au/referendums/voting.htm#start

Quotes attributable to Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters MP:

“The last Referendum was in 1999 and no one under the age of 42 has ever voted in a Referendum before – that’s why it’s important to remind people get out and vote”

“This Referendum is about changing the constitution to recognise 65,000 years of First Nations culture and connection to country.

“Whether voting early, voting via the post or voting on Referendum Day, your vote is powerful and that’s one of the great things about our democracy.”
