Chesters Secures Strongest Vote in Bendigo's History

22 June 2022

This morning the Australian Electoral Commission formally declared the result in Bendigo, following the May 21 federal election.

The seat of Bendigo now sits at 62.1% to Labor - the strongest result the electorate has ever seen.

Labor’s Lisa Chesters retained the seat, holding it with an increased swing of 3.26% from the 2019 election.

It is Ms Chesters’ fourth term in the job, first elected in 2013.

“Bendigo is a Federation seat and to receive the best election result in 122 years is just amazing,” Chesters said.

“It is truly an honour to be re-elected as the Federal Member for Bendigo.

“I couldn’t have done it without the hard work of my team and local volunteers.

“The Labor Government I am a part of will work to ensure all Australians can look forward to a better future.

“Now the real work begins. Firstly, I’ll be focused on delivering the commitments that Labor made to the region.

“There are some really exciting projects set to get underway, including the Maldon Battery, Bendigo Islamic Community Centre, local school and sporting infrastructure upgrades, and the Bendigo Airport.

“I will also continue to meet with community groups, organisations, and my constituents to ensure I’m working in the best interests for the people of Bendigo, Macedon, Mount Alexander and Heathcote.

“I look forward to continuing to represent our fantastic community in parliament,” Chesters said.

The 47th parliament is set to open on July 26.
